Between 1966 and 1971, a total of 230 serial locomotives were produced for the then ČSD at the ČKD plants in Prague.
With the introduction of EDP traction vehicle numbers in 1988, the locomotives were given the new designation 751 or 752. Since 1998, Class 751 CD locomotives have been painted in a uniform grey-red color and are mainly used for freight transport.
