For the shunting of passenger and goods wagons in stations, the Deutsche Bundesbahn used smaller shunting locomotives from an early stage. A further development of the Köf 11, with power transmission via cardan shafts and additional axle drives, was presented by Gmeinder in 1965. 251 shunting locomotives of this type, initially designated as the Köf 12, were delivered to the Deutsche Bundesbahn as the class 333. From the end of the 1980s, the majority of the locomotives were equipped with radio remote control in order to save on personnel. These locomotives were designated as the 335 series. Some of these small locomotives were still in service with the Bahnbau Group from 2010.
