The Siemens Vectron emerged from the experience of around 1900 built locomotives of the so-called Eurosprinter family. At the beginning of the 2000s, Siemens presented the Taurus, a true model of success for international rail transport. A few years later a new milestone in Siemens locomotive history followed with the introduction of the Vectron.
A particularly aerodynamic design, particularly good crash safety and great flexibility speak in favor of the Vectron. The advantage for the customers of the Vectron lies in the innumerable possibilities for the implementation of its technical properties. A modular construction kit system ensures that the most diverse requirements of the respective railway companies can be met. Locomotives are available for different power systems, speeds or train protection. This makes the locomotive particularly attractive for the large locomotive rental companies such as Railpool, MRCE or ELL. Various state railways are already using the Vectron successfully and are running freight trains from north to south. Different power systems and train protection systems are passed through. With the Vectron there is no need to change the locomotive there.
Siemens AG Austria won the ÖBB competition with its Vectron family locomotives. Up to 200 copies in three different types can be requested from the ÖBB for freight traffic in the next few years.
